another SHO

$

Recently i picked up another SHO this time I got a 1995 automatic. Because of my dealings with the Past 3 others I have Owned I thought, it shouldn't take too much to get this one going it's been sitting for over a year.

Well I was wrong This one is Acting like my third one, Now My Wife's Baby Hers turned out to be the lower Timing gear was worn and jumping on the key way. I'm told this is very rare.

So I drove it home, no real problems until i went to take my boys to school and it just died, I was able to limp it home but it is running like Crap.after sitting a week with battery disconnected starts OK, with a little Throttle Tweaking, it will start. I pulled Codes and this is what I got; 565 565 1 214 214. i was told this could mean the PCM is toast and or the Cam sensor has gone south.

I have another 1993 Parts SHO automatic (Squirrels wanted out through the Block) Blown engine So I pulled the PCM from it and installed it in my 1995 here are the codes now 565 565 1 212 214 212 214 these tell me form my scanner book ,
565 Canister purge solenoid
212 Loss of ignition diagnostic monitor signal/SPOUT circuit grounded
214 Cylinder Identification circuit Failure.

I have ford Shop Manuals for a 1990 SHO( Never should have sold that one) and for 1993 but no codes referenced

I'm I reading this wrong?
Are SHO codes Different?
where can I find the Codes? or a book for these.

I am old so bare with me and please speak slowly. I know I/we can get this resolved with in the year, I hope much sooner. should I just start swapping parts cam Sensor etc? this could get expensive.

Trunk Light Fix

So as we all know, we have a very large trunk and the light that Ford provided to us just isn't all that great. Yea we could change it out with a LED replacement bulb, but I still don't think that it would quite be enough.

So I ordered and installed a new trunk light on Saturday. Before I had a cheap LED strip stuck to the trim panel at the trunk opening and it just wasn't cutting it. Some of the LEDs were on the fritz and it wasn't sticking very well so I finally got fed up with it and bought this:

We had lights similar to these are work so I already knew how bright they were. This is actually the 12v version. They also have a 24v version, which is the one we use at work. This came from SuperBrightLEDs. Ran me $20,but I don't have to worry about it burning out or it not being bright enough.

I cut and spliced directly into the existing harness for the stock trunk light and then stuck it to the carpeting on the top of the trunk and ran the wire through a slit to help hide it.

02 Sable - Cruise deactivated, theft light blinking, dash dimmed while driving!

I had the cruise set at 60 mph for about 8 miles this morning when all of a sudden there was a bit of a clunk noise and the car lurched a bit and started to slow down. I immediately looked at the dash to see it was only about 1/2 bright, the theft light was flashing slowly, the RPM had spiked from 2k to 2.5k, the cruise light was off, and the car was slowing down a bit too fast. It had that feel of downshifting. I tapped the brake and coasted for a couple of seconds and then hit the accelerator. It responded normally. I then coasted in to the stop light I was approaching. The dash was now at full brightness with no flashing theft light. From here everything was then back to normal. I went 20 more miles with a few starts and stops with cruise on. Could someone please help me determine what may have caused this so I can deal with it now before it happens again or gets worse? About 45 minutes after I got to work I went out and started it up just to make sure it would start and it seemed normal.

New Here from Norcal. Bought my car in Janaury for a for a steal :D I love it compared to the old Crown Vic I used to drive. It feels like a ultra modern car, The only mod it has so far is the K&N Intake. Seems like there's only an aftermarket for the SHO and that market barely exists. Are there any other performance parts available? other then the Livernois Tune?

Hi. I bought a 1994 Taurus in January. I knew it would have issues, which it does. I am an internet and manual-taught diy-er and I registered with the Forum in the hope it will be a great resource as this Taurus is made road-worthy. Our part of the planet is Midwest. Thank you for being here.

96 Taurus Engine In A 96 Sable

Just to clarify what I read in the Engine Swap Information post, where it said under the Gen3 section: for any 96-99 Taurus, SHO, & Sable, this engine would work - 95-99 Vulcan. What I'm wanting to make sure is will a 96 Ford Taurus 3.0L OHV Vulcan V-6 fit in a 1996 Sable? It would be very nice if so, because I already have a good 1996 Ford Taurus wagon with that same engine and have a chance to pick up a 1996 Mercury Sable wagon for a good price. It would be nice if both cars could use the same engine parts. That way, I could have a spare wagon to drive if either had a problem somewhere down the line.

Pulled a P0320 code this morning

My 2003 Taurus SES started running rough and stalling at idle a few days ago. Tried a scan then and showed no codes. This morning the CEL came on and I got a code from the scan, P0320.

It seem to indicate the crank and cam sensors at fault but we had quite a bit of wet weather several days so I wondered if the connections are being compromised.

Is that possible? What do I use for cleaning the connectors? I have a can of MAF cleaner, will that work?

If all else fail am I on the right track in replacing those sensors?

I have 94K on the clock.

Thanks Bill

Just Bought a Sable- Engine Went bad?!

Hello guys,

I wish I could be happy on better circumstances. I bought a 2002 Sable with the Duratec 68,100 miles on it when I bought it. I have owned it about three weeks. No problems, put a few hundred miles on it. Yesterday, I started up the car and I got the flashing engine light and it was misfiring. Said wow. Brought it into the mechanic shop. He calls me this morning says, "Sorry but your camshaft on the car is screwed up, the motor is basically bad. If you want to fix it, ur gonna have to put a whole another motor in, either junkyard or rebuilt."

Firstly, I thought the Duratec was a good motor. I knew buying the car all about these cars and knew them to be dependable when maintained well. I was more worried about the transmission, which is still fine or seems to be (but he said he is going to look the car over for me before we just throw anotehr motor in there).

I have severeal questions

1.)- is it possible the guy who sold me the car at the gas station knew, a month in advance that the camshaft would go bad and have the motor crap out on me?

2.)- is it viable for $1500-$1800 to put another motor in? The clock only reads 68,800 or so and I'd HATE to junk this car and buy something for under 2 grand which would probably be a piece of crap.

3.)- What is this caused from?

4.)- Is this a common problem and what should I do? Is it worth it?

Yours truly,

Bertdaddy

2003 Taurus Rear Suspension Upgrade

$

Hey guys -

The time is here to replace my rear suspension. I want to stiffen the back end up as well as raise it to the OEM height. I do haul a fair amount of weight (500lbs) in the back every weekend so I need something that can stand up to the task.

Currently I have 2 options:

1) Monroe Quickstrut - 271616

2) A combination of moog cc857 springs with OEM motorcraft struts and hardware.

What will give me the best performance as well as hold up my weight requirements?
