99 dohc gas stink!?
Hey guys I recently acquired a sweet 99 se from my inlaws. I love the car. It's clean, good body and only 85k but it's old and has a few things going on that I'm in the process of fixing. Every time I fill it up I smell gas for about a day. I just noticed that when I brake on the harder side I can bring the smell out. I haven't seen any leaks so I was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this or an point me in a direction to figure out what it is. The fuel pump was replaced about 7 months ago and they had to fix it 3 times bc my mother inlaw couldn't get the tank to fill up over 3/4 tank. Any ideas??

Tarp vs. car cover?
Putting car in open outside storage. Car covers can be expensive, tarps are a whole lot cheaper. Heard tarps can damage paint? Wondering if that's true?

heater ac problem
I recently purchased a 2001 Taurus SEL with EATC that I have been slowly fixing things that needed attention. This forum has been very helpful in this endeavor. I have searched the thread on this topic but find myself at a lose as I am pointed in several directions so I thought I would post my own problem.
The ac is not working, ac compressor is not engaging, the low coolant light was on all the time (disconnected the wire at reservoir which will be replaced). I have been unable to see the cooling fans operating but the car runs cool (neither fan runs when ac on max). I need to know before the hot weather, if the fans are operating properly in the system.(I have swapped relays so that is not the problem). The temperature gauge doesn't move above half way.
I would also like to get the ac working correctly again.

Side airbags in a 2000?
I have a 2000 Sable wagon without side airbags.
Both front seats are starting to show their age.
I went to JY today and found a nice pair but they had side airbags (I don't remember the year but it wasn't gen 4.5). The connectors under the seat looked the same as mine.
Will they give me any airbag codes?
Will the side airbags actually work?
Will the airbags explode when I connect the cables?
Is there any separate sensor (maybe in the door) for the side airbags?

valve stem seal install blunder
I did a really stupid thing today because I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing........ my mind was elsewhere. I installed the seals on the head first and then pushed the valves up through them, instead of pushing the valve up through the bore and then installing the seal over the stem with the cone. I did use some assembly lube on the end of the stem and used a twisting motion to ease them through the seal. Do you think that I am going to have seal issues? Yeah, I know.......... what an idiot!

Difficult Ball Joint separation
Going to put this up here and save a link in my system and refer back to this for the most difficult BJ/contol arm issues.
This on a used car, someone else had used a pickle fork and ruined the BJ boots, cut both sides. The nuts were to tight I had to use a 16" breaker bar and 2.5' pipe extension to loosen the nuts. Spec is 59 ftlb. So last one must have just run them up with air impact, harder is better, no chance of separation.:angry:
First I used a picke fork, modified by disc grinder flattening the ramp for more bite and 4# hammer, heat and no help, cut the stud off with a recrip saw. Used puller, based on steel plate, washer on top, 2 tourch heat and 4# hammer with no help.
Removed the LCA and put it out back, solid concrete block, steel plate over, washer to put force only on the arm, 2 tourch heat, 8# hammer, over head lick, 3rd one broke it loose.
On the other side, I replaced the LCA rather than do this again, just cut the BJ stud and pulled the LCA.
Other cases, '98 also cut boot by Ford dealer, but I got it with the puller and heat. Lin Cont also done by Ford dealer. In this case, I got it with the diagram in the pic, using a wedge and hammers on both sides of the aluminum LCA. Aluminum is a bit different in the hammering works, and I was not replacing the BJ, just the half shaft they messed up. Dealer out of business so no warrenty on their work.
Just sharing.

I need one 18"x7.5" seven spoke wheel for 2008 SEL
My son took the edge off one rim with a curb. Where can I find a new one. I can't find one in stock online anywhere close to me in a junkyard or even some online places that sell used wheels.

Power steering pressure swtich location on 06 Taurus Se
Car has been jolting during acceleration, all things i'v looked at point to this switch, but i cannot find it, i'v looked almost everywhere i can. I have followed all the power steering lines, rack and pinon nothing... Also is it a 3 or 2 pin connection?
It's a 06 Ford Taurus Se 3.0 v6 12v i think.

Strange Clunking Sound
So just about every time I go over a speed bump, just inching over it, I hear this little clunking sound coming from the front passenger side suspension area. I thought that it was my endlinks, so I replaced both sides and it's still happening (the driver side used to to it for a while, but it stopped I guess from some miracle of the universe :P). Any ideas what this might be? Could it be the strut? A sway bar bushing? I don't ant to throw money at it with no results. I'm asking because I wouldn't even know where to start diagnosing the problem. I'm very new to any type of suspension work, the endlinks on this car was the very first time I've ever worked on or replaced any suspension components on my own. Please advise.

Radio removal on 2008 Taurus
I popped off the chrome shifter bezel but then I don't really see how to continue to get to the radio.
Do I need to remove the bolts inside the center console storage compartment ?

Sable Rear Sway Bar RUSTED-ROTTED
I have a 2000 Mercury Sable 24v the rear sway bar mounting bracket/bushing is rusted/rotted away. Is there anyone that has repaired this issue? If so what's the best way to go about doing so?

brake pad replacement question
I just recently got my Taurus. It's a 2011 SEL. It needs break pads. Just wondering if the caliper pistons just push in on the front and back calipers with a c clamp or is a special tool needed?

no back up lights
i'm new the the site so bare with me. I live is suuy and hot Phoenix Arizona. I am have an issue with the back up lights-they just dont work and i have replaced the bulbs. any ideas?

All four corners out of alignment??
Just went and got an oil change for the first time and found out that all four corners are out of alignment. Had them use Valvoline Maxlife synthetic blend.
Any suggestions on oil are also welcome. My bull just rolled 76k miles today.
Front Right -.20
Rear Right -.15
camber and caster were all perfect. I'm planning on getting a set of eibach lowering springs this spring/summer. My question is should I get it aligned before then or wait until I get the springs put on?
Springs may happen in the next few weeks or may be until mid summer.
Any suggestions on oil are also welcome. My bull just rolled 76k miles today.

MP3 FM Transmitter, Why Not?
My wife is using the 03 we recently bought as her DD and misses the MP3 capability of the Sony head unit she had in her Marquis. So, to keep her happy, I've been looking at MP3 players and see that the price is very low compared to a new head unit. However, audiophiles don't seem particularly happy with FM transmitters.
Our 95 Taurus had a FM transmitted CD player and I never noticed any problems with the sound. Anyone using a MP3 version and, if so, what do you think? Any thoughts welcome.
